Architecture Internship
Throughout the period of industrial training, I have been learning at Arkitek Tong-KC under the supervision of Yee Pik Khee, Senior Assistant Architect, of the firm. Based in Ipoh, Perak, this firm is currently well-known for its effective works and currently in-charged for the upcoming Ipoh Convention Centre.

I have been actively participating and tasked for a series of projects of different stages; tender, contract, approval by local authorities and even construction stages. Mainly, the period of internship is based on 5 main projects along with miscellaneous and administration tasks. Works include from preparation of contract documents, design and drafting, to construction site visits and consultant meetings. As such, I have had a wide experience of different stages throughout the past weeks.
Among the projects, I have worked on 3D Modelling for a design proposal on a 29-acre land. The plot of land is to be designed for a multi-zoned area that consists of medical, residential and commercial purposes.

The multiple-zoned area, entitled Medical Hub, is located in Ampang, Ipoh. The 3D Model proposed is a simple representative for the client to understand the zoning allocated. The proposal is to be further designed.

Presentation was made to the client with the use of Google Earth for a realistic view of the proposed area in relation with its surroundings.

Being in the architecture industry, drafting is one of the bread and butter of every firm and thus, I have been involved with multiple sets of drawings for different projects. Projects such as housing schemes and hospitals were the current priority of the firm throughout my period of internship. Drafting works range from creating housing blocks of terrace houses, drafting room data to preparing window and door schedules of a hospital. Pictures below illustrate the range of projects that I was involved in.
Apart from dealing with the architectural matters, paperwork is very important as well to ensure all architectural matters are permitted by the local council and that the team of consultants and contractors should know their boundaries.

I have been involved with the preparation of a Contract Document from an agreed Tender Document. The document holds important information such as the building particulars and specifications, and the construction cost and liability of each party. Besides that, I have dealt with the documents and forms for the approval of the local council. More information is disclosed in the report.
