Project: Food and Hangout Center

The site is within the Titiwangsa Lake Gardens of Kuala Lumpur, where up to 4 sites are to be chosen from according to their programme. As for me, I chose to design a food and hangout center and resulted to a site located at the entrance of the lake gardens, at the intersection of Jalan Kuantan and Jalan Tembeling. As an overall, the site is a green lung within the urbanscapes of northern part of Kuala Lumpur and is located next to the heritage area where most of the national cultural centers are situated at. A preliminary studies of the area was conducted by my team to observe and analyse the area.

To design a food and hangout center, my main idea revolved around creating a food hub that enables different experiences of exploring food. From the very basic understanding of food consumption to cooking and redefining ingredients of our local dishes. This food hub allows multiple explorations of food and thus aspires to be a place well-known by the nation.

Meanwhile, the conceptual design of the building ignites from the dualistic nature of the area as the park sits within a city where tranquility meets noisiness and organic meets systematic. The site is built upon duality ever since the birth of the park during the 1950s. In addition, the location of the site being at the entrance of the Titiwangsa Lake Gardens creates a chance for it being a gateway, a monumental structure that symbolises the lake gardens.
