Food & Culture

Food and Culture is an elective module which aims to examine and explore how the act of food preparation and consumption influences spaces and place-making in architecture through the act of research and on site experiences. The emphasis is on the processes of experiencing, capturing, diagramming, and identifying the spatial relationship of food culture within the community that shape its identity and of their built environment.

Project 1: Research Proposal & Experience and Capture

The first project consists of two parts. First off, we are to set out for a field trip to prepare a research proposal based on the food and culture of the community. Within a choice of 3; Food Ingredients, Food Consumption and Food Preparation, I chose to come up with a research proposal based on the latter subject to understand the effects of hawker stalls within our Malaysian community.

The second part of the project is a documentation of the experience during the field trip, capturing the essence of local food and the people around it. The video beside is a group work that shares a similar area of study, and in this case: Uptown Damansara.

Project 2: Interpretation and Analysis

The aim of this assignment is to translate the research into a visual representation. We are required to analyse and interpret the documentation we have gathered in the study tour. The final document shall be a compilation of the research proposal, analyses and interpretation of the research topic. The final product is an A2 infographic presentation.
