Project 1: The Art of Adaptation
The first project comprises of interpreting literature into an art piece that shows a painting of a city. The literature that we studied is entitled 'Invisible Cities' by Italo Calvino which comprises of many short stories that describes about Marco Polo telling stories of the many cities that he has visited to Kublai Khan. Each city portrayed in the literature is different and contains very interesting surreal descriptions of the city and its people.

As for my group, we studied on the third chapter that features 5 cities and each city is being told with details of the how the city would look like and how the people act there. For this project, after understanding the 5 cities, we are to come up with a painting of city that features all the other cities into a combined painting.

City of Zobeide
The desire of each person that leads to their selfishness and
willing to harm others for the sake of their desires.

City of Armilla
Extensive use of resources by the people, without even
caring about nature until nature takes a toll upon them

City of Chloe
The common goal of each person leads them to their
uncaring act as they work together towards the same
goal without any conscience and moral

City of Hypatia
A paradox city where the ways each person
perceives is different from its outcome

City of Valdrada
A reflected city where its people are insecure of
their doings due their inner guilt and fear

Project 2: Observing the Everyday
The second project seeks to have a greater understanding of Kuala Lumpur and its great surroundings. This project of objectivity and subjectivity, we are identify parts of the site that relates with parts of the city from the previous project. By observing the city and the people of Kuala Lumpur, we are able to link certain features with the cities in 'Invisible Cities'.

As for my group of 3, we chose our site which is off Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and managed to observe and record our experience with a series of photographs. A total of 9 photographs are needed to describe our findings.
Project 3: RE-SYNTHesized An Experiment
The final project is the last exercise that combines the previous two projects; the first where surrealism and imaginary occurs, the second where realism and physical fabric exists. The combination of both projects leads to a mixture of surrealism within the physical world. The project seeks to have a timeline view of a part of the context to observe how a place will progress in the next 25, 50 and 100 years.

Hence by translating and adapting the cities in the first project with essences of the context of Kuala Lumpur, an idea of the city undergoing surrealist or utopian ideas comes to mind. As for mine, I pictured the city to be in a dystopia where a social gap occurs and the gap keeps increasing until there is no point of return. The gap causes major problems to those that dont benefit from it and has cause an uprise which lead to the apocalypse of the city. My ideas are as below.
